Sleepless Search

10 hours in the fairy glen.

Panel 1:The interference between illusion spells resolves itself as Dawn’s glamour finally fades.

Jack lays on his back on one side of the low stone wall. Dipper leaning on the wall and Moth standing bent with his hands on his knees both look over the wall and down at Jack.

Moth says, “I hope you’re just taking a nap, because this is a laughably bad hiding spot.”

Panel 2: Jack sits up and puts a hand to the strap of his bag of loot. He looks away with a somewhat embarrassed expression. Dipper leans on the wall and peers at the bag. Moth crouches with his elbows rested on his thighs.

Jack says, “Uh, hello.”

Moth asks, “So are you sleepy, or scared of me?”

Dipper asks, “Whatcha got in the bag?”

Panel 3: We can see Firth is watching from just off stage, peering around a wall. She gazes at Jack, smiling sweetly, a heart over her head. Her hair is down out of its twists, with the hair band still tied in place. Her chemise, sash, and tights, are missing, and she’s tied the skirt of her dress into a knot over her knee.

Jack stands up,interlaces his fingers, and pops his knuckles, well, that’s not how to pop one’s knuckles, but that’s how I drew it. He tilts his head and smiles in an expression of challenge.

Jack asks, “You think I’m scared of you?”

There’s an aside panel where Jack puts his palm to his eye and grimaces, whispering, “Ugh, one moment.”

Moth puts a hand to his forehead and looks aside. He replies, “Whatever you call it when you hide from me and then ‘subtly’ threaten me.”

Jack says, “Well, if you’re taking people -”

Moth interrupts, “Who’s a five-six* skinny faun going to – No! I don’t need or want you fuckers.”

In an aside panel, Moth takes his glasses off and rubs his wrist across his eye. He mutters, “When can we sleep? Shit.”

*five feet and six inches tall

Panel 4: Firth still watches Jack. Jack puts a hand to his shoulder. He has bags under his eyes and his posture and expression show weariness.

Jack asks, “So you didn’t feed anybody to your bear?”

In two aside panels, he yawns (making Firth yawn), then rubs his palms into his eyes.

Panel 5: Moth turns away and puts a hand over his face, and flips Jack off. We can see Winter in the audience with Mal’s feet up on her shoulder, and a bonfire behind her.

Moth says, “Oh for fuck’s sake. I did not go on a killing spree to feed my bear.”

Panel 6: Jack looks up at Moth and Moth puts a hand on his hip. In height, Jack comes up almost to Moth’s shoulder. Jack looks amused and Moth grins.

Moth says, “But he might eat chunks of one person. He is a bear.”

Jack replies, “Sure, Bambi. And I’m sure you’re only four inches taller than me.”

Moth says, “You got me there. I was joking, anyway.”

Panel 7: Jack, Moth, and Dipper sit on the low stone wall. Jack and Moth slouch, and Dipper extends his feet out in front of him.

Jack asks, “So if you didn’t kidnap her brothers, do you wanna help me find them?”

(Useful idea, 100 XP)

Moth replies, “Absolutely.”

Jack says, “Sorry I hid from you.”

Moth says, “Thanks.”
